Private Lessons

I offer private Classical Pilates lessons using the Reformer, Tower, Wunda Chair, Spine Corrector and Mat in my bright home studio located in historic Steveston Village, Richmond, BC. Each private lesson is carefully tailored to your goals, individual needs and fitness level. Private sessions are an excellent way to introduce the fundamental principles of Pilates to beginning students and also for those who want to gain a more thorough understanding and mastery of the method. Duet Lessons

Do you have a friend or family member that you would like to workout on the Pilates Mat, Reformer or Tower with? Duet Pilates Classes can be ideal for workout partners with similar levels of Pilates experience who enjoy working out in a smaller group. Duet Pilates Classes give you a personalized experience at a more economical price in a motivating shared environment. Duet sessions are carefully tailored to you and your workout partners goals and fitness levels. I will work one-on-two with you to help you achieve your goals in a relaxed, caring environment. Private and Duet Mat Classes

Do you prefer the Classical Mat repertoire over working on the Reformer or Tower? I offer private or duet Classical Pilates mat lessons in my bright home studio located in historic Steveston Village, Richmond, BC. Each private lesson is carefully tailored to your level of ability and your goals. Private sessions are an excellent way to introduce the fundamental principles of Pilates to beginning students and also for those who want to gain a more thorough understanding and mastery of the method.

Private Mat Classes – $85/hour (includes GST)

Semi Private (Duet) Pilates Mat Classes – $60 per person/hour (includes GST)

Group Mat Classes

In-Person /Virtual Mat
This 60 minute Pilates mat class is intended for those with some experience in Classical Pilates. That means it's best if you know your Foundational exercises (the Hundred, Rollup, Leg Circles, Rolling like a Ball, Single Leg Stretch, Double Leg Stretch and Spine Stretch Forward). If you don’t know the basics but are an experienced “exerciser”, you’re still welcome to come try a class. I offer modifications to the exercises where I can and there are a variety of levels of experience in the class. If you would like to join the class but are absolutely new to the practice, please feel free to reach out to me to arrange a couple of private lessons to learn the basics principles of pilates.

This is a BYO-Equipment class. You will need 1-2 yoga mats (the cushier the better for the rolling exercises) or a softer Pilates mat. Optional props that may help your practice are: a yoga block and a small hand towel.

The class is held in person at the Steveston HUB (see below for address) AND is also streamed live via Zoom for those who are unable to make the in-person class.

Corporate Groups

I am also available to teach corporate group Pilates mat sessions. These sessions are usually run in 8-10 week blocks and are suitable for people who have never done Pilates before. We start with the basic concepts and build on them as the weeks progress. By the end of the session, participants will have a good knowledge of the principles and basic exercises of the Classical Pilates method and should feel confident joining a group mat class.

Mat Classes In Your Home

If you prefer to work out in the comfort and convenience of your own home, I am quite happy to come to you. This offering is available on a one-on-one basis, one-on-two basis or as a small group class (if you have a group of friends and an area to hold a class in).

FAQs

 

What should I wear?

Breathable, comfortable fitness clothing without zippers or buttons – whatever you would wear for yoga, weight training, etc. The more form-fitting your clothing is though, the better, so that I am able to see your alignment. (Please leave your jewelry at home as it can damage the leather on the apparatus).

Are there any prerequisites?

No Pilates experience is required to participate in Private Pilates or Duet Pilates Classes. However, if you have recently experienced an injury, you must acquire doctor approval before starting classes. All classes at Pilates by Deb are fitness-based, not rehab-based. I do have intensive training and a strong knowledge of anatomy and how the body works, but I am not a physiotherapist. I do however work with many people rehabilitating from injuries once they have had the ok from their doctors to participate in a Pilates program. The group mat class is intended for those with some experience with Classical Pilates. Please see the description under “Offerings” for more detail.

How long is a class?

Each private or duet class is 55-minutes.

Can you match me with another person also looking for a Duet Class?

The idea is that you come with a partner. There may be a possibility that a private student is looking for a partner to work out with but the idea is that you come with a friend or family member with a similar level of experience and fitness level,

What is your cancellation policy?

A minimum of 24 hours notice is required to cancel a class. If less than 24 hours notice is given, you will be expected to pay for your missed class.

Do your Introductory or 10-class packages expire?

Yes. My business operates on a set schedule basis, meaning you have a set day and time that you have committed to come for lessons and I have reserved that day and time specifically for you.

New client intro packages (5 sessions) must be used within 6 weeks. (this is a one time offer)
10-class packages expire in 7 weeks for students who take two or more classes per week.
10-class packages expire in 12 weeks for students who take one class per week.

What style of Pilates is taught?

The majority of my classes are taught in the Classical Pilates style in the tradition of Romana Kryzanowska and Joseph Pilates. Occasionally there will be some more contemporary Pilates exercises incorporated into the classes depending on the needs of the student (s).

Payment?

I accept cash, cheques or e-transfers. You may pay for your classes monthly, weekly or one at a time. I also offer 10 class packages. Payment is expected on the first of the month or after each class. In the event that you have to cancel a class last minute, I will expect payment for that missed class when you come the next time.

What times do you teach and how do I book a session?

To book a class, please contact me by clicking on the button at the end of this page. I teach Monday to Thursday and can be fairly flexible in terms of times. I offer both daytime and evening sessions. The best thing to do is contact me with the days and times you would prefer and we can go from there. :)

I believe that moving well is the secret to a happy life. When you move well, you feel well and there is an ease and flow and grace to life. It feels great to be strong and flexible and without pain. There is also tremendous power in movement. Not just physical movement but also movement of the mind and changing our beliefs about ourselves. I believe that when we feel strong, flexible and free in our bodies, we are happier and kinder to ourselves and in turn, to others. Joseph Pilates believed that emotional health was inextricably linked to physical health, and so do I. I look forward to being able to share the power of Pilates and movement with you soon.
