Online Classes
Hello my Pilates friends,
I started teaching these online mat classes via zoom in March 2020 when the Covid-19 pandemic forced us all to close our studio doors and have continued to offer a few online classes a week since that time.
While the world is slowly starting to feel a bit more “normal” again and most of my teaching is done in studio, I have decided to continue to offer one group class a week. If you are interested in taking part in these classes, please contact me via the button below and I will add you to the invite list. Invites are sent out to participants the day of class.
These classes usually run in 8 week blocks. I prefer to have people sign up for the whole session but will make accommodations for people who know they will have to miss one or two. I prefer not to have people drop in and out as I try to build on skills from week to week to help people progress in their Pilates practice.
These mat classes are considered to be a solid intermediate level. If you’ve never done Pilates before and would like to take part in these group classes you will be required to do a Fundamental Mat Series of private lessons* to learn the basic principles and mat exercises (see below). I do offer some modifications and challenges in these classes so that everyone is able to participate but these classes are not recommended for a brand new beginner.

*Fundamental Mat – Private Lessons
If you would like to take part in the weekly online mat class but have never done Pilates or are coming back from a long hiatus, you will be required to take this Fundamental Mat Series before participating in the weekly zoom class.
This 3 class series will teach you the basic principles and fundamental exercises of Pilates and how to modify so that you can safely participate in the group class.
The cost for this fundamental series of 3 privates is $100. Each lesson will be 45 minutes in length. Please contact me to arrange dates and times. These sessions can be done in person in my home studio or in the comfort of your own home via zoom. Please note this fee only applies to this Fundamental Mat Series.
Please contact me if you would like more information.
FAQs
What should I wear?
Breathable, comfortable fitness clothing without zippers or buttons – whatever you would wear for yoga, weight training, etc. The more form-fitting your clothing is though, the better, so that I am able to see your alignment and help you with your practice more effectively.
Are there any prerequisites?
No Pilates experience is required to participate in Private Pilates or Duet Pilates Classes. However, if you have recently experienced an injury, you must acquire doctor approval before starting classes. All classes at Pilates by Deb are fitness-based, not rehab-based. I do have intensive training and a strong knowledge of anatomy and how the body works, but I am not a physiotherapist. I do however work with many people rehabilitating from injuries once they have had the ok from their doctors to participate in a Pilates program.
If you would like to join the regular group Online Mat class and have never done Pilates before, you are required to do a series of 3 private one-on-one sessions with Deb to learn the basic principles. (Please refer to the Online Classes section for more information).
How long is a class?
Each private or duet class is 55-minutes. Online mat classes are an hour in length.
Can you match me with another person also looking for a Duet Class?
The idea is that you come with a partner. There may be a possibility that a private student is looking for a partner to work out with but the idea is that you come with a friend or family member who is at about the same fitness level.
What is your cancellation policy?
A minimum of 24 hours notice is required to cancel a class. If less than 24 hours notice is given, you will be expected to pay for your missed class.
To cancel a class, please send an email to pilatesbydeb11@gmail.com or call / text 604-818-8841
Do your Introductory or 10-class packages expire?
Yes. My business operates on a set schedule basis, meaning you have a set day and time that you have committed to come for lessons and I have reserved that day and time specifically for you.
New client intro packages (5 sessions) must be used within 7 weeks.
10-class packages expire in 7 weeks for students who take two or more classes per month.
10-class packages expire in 12 weeks for students who take one class per month.
What style of Pilates is taught?
The majority of my classes are taught in the Classical Pilates style in the tradition of Romana Kryzanowska and Joseph Pilates. Occasionally there will be some more contemporary Pilates exercises incorporated into the classes depending on the needs of the student (s).
Payment?
I accept cash, cheques or e-transfers. You may pay for your classes monthly, weekly or one at a time. I also offer packages of 10 classes for a slight discount. Payment is expected on the first of the month or after each class. In the event that you have to cancel a class last minute, I will expect payment for that missed class when you come the next time.
What times do you teach and how do I book a session?
To book a class, please contact me. I teach Tuesdays – Saturdays and am fairly flexible in terms of times. The best thing to do is contact me with the days and times you would prefer and we can go from there. :)
